About Us

Around 1890, the Feed Sack, was a grocery store established by Smith and Settle, and sold groceries to the local town folk. Over the years it was bought and sold to other store owners and renamed several times - Oliver's Grocery, and Council Grocery to name a few.

About fifteen years ago it was turned into a restaurant called the Feed Sack.

Then, about seven years ago, Stan, who was failing miserably at retirement decided to plunge into the world of becoming a restaurateur by purchasing our favorite place to dine. We haven't looked back since!

The original walls that are nearly 3' thick hand cut from a local quarry walls are still there, and if you look closely you can still see the chisel marks!

This place holds a lot of history and memories - we hope you love it as much as we do!

Rave Reviews

We've garnered some great reviews over the years. Our favorite is this one from a lady from Alaska!

""Feed Sack" Food for Humans - Not Cows (Smile) This blink of an eye 'Town' is worth the "Stop"! Business took me down Highway 56. Time to stop, freshen up and have a bite to eat. As I parked I absorbed their Theme: Red, White & Blue, Community Center/Park, a few large storage bins, silos, and this Large Sign: "Windom Feed Sack"! What is this? Had to investigate! Looks too nice to contain feed sacks for Cattle. Of course, I was so hungry, I could have fought the horses for their food. Stop, didn't have to, it was a very nice restaurant for humans! Charming atmosphere with such wonderful aroma of food! I was greeted and took a table. Asked for her recommendations - it was Friday - Catfish. Food appeared and my taste buds were in Heaven: I wish I could have tried everything - perhaps on another visit. I will return! Step back in time - Stop - Park- have a visit with the townspeople. "00PS" almost forgot, they invited me to come back on Saturday night: I made it: Saturday Night: Town sparkles with Live Music, Laughter, Good food and Good People. As a solo traveler, this town made me feel safe and right at home with Family & Friends. Many thanks to all. Prayers & Blessings LL
